Tips for Space Utilization in Small Apartments

It’s not necessary to hire an interior designer to transform your small apartment into a functional and better organized one, you can implement some practical ideas yourself once you have identified your space needs and budget. Invest in some functional furniture, a good closet, good quality paint on your walls and see how your small apartment will become more organized, comfortable, and clutter free. Remember, your home reflects your style, your taste. So, go ahead and convert your home into an aesthetically designed spacious abode. De-cluttering Helps Reduce clutter. This is the first and foremost therapy to create spaciousness.Discard things that you don’t need any longer. Why waste space in stacking things in cabinets that you seldom use? Reducing clutter reduces stress and gives you peace of mind besides giving you extra space in your house. Colour Me Light, Colour Me White An important therapy in creating an illusion of space is using colours in the right way. The best colour for lending openness to a room is white. White and light hues such as beige, cream, pastels, or cool colours (tinged with blue or green) give the impression that the walls are further away than they actually are. These colours also reflect a lot of light, thereby making rooms look wide and spacious. Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall: My Room No Longer Looks Small Create illusion of space is by using wall sized mirrors orbig mirrors in rooms. This magnifies the area and reflects light. You can use mirrors on the wardrobe doors and if possible use sliding doors instead of hinged swinging doors. This is another good way of saving space. The View From My Window Leaving your windows uncovered or using very light coloured sheer curtains will trick your eyes into thinking that your room has got depth and will enliven the room by revealing the natural beauty of the landscape outside. What’s Your Focal Point? Identify the focal point of each room. Focal point is the most eye-catching feature of a room. It can be an architectural feature, a piece of furniture, an artwork, a floral arrangement, a window opening to a beautiful outdoor view, or a wall of a different colour or a textured wall. Once you know what a room’s focal point is decide how to orient your furniture or décor around that point. It is always a good idea to develop outward from the focal point. This will give the room a spacious and bigger look than it really has. Furniture Vs Space Evaluate the floor space occupied by your furniture in each room. Once this is done and the focal point...

The Resplendent Wallpaper: Wallpaper is a decorative non-woven (paper) or woven (fabric based material) used as coverings for walls and ceiling inside residences and offices.  They are used for decorative purposes or to hide flaws on the walls. Wallpaper is sold in rolls and is pasted vertically onto the wall using wallpaper paste. Wallpapers are either plain (this type can be painted), or patterned, or textured like the Anaglypta- a kind of vinyl and paper paintable textured wall covering. The wallpaper began being used in Europe in 1500s. Back then it depicted religious themes and different scenes on large sheets of paper trying to add some grace and beauty to the homes of the then middle class who could not afford the tapestries used by the aristocracy and elite. Since then it has come a long way, but even today it continues to charm its users with its variety of textures, patterns, and finish. Solar Energy

Need for Solar Energy: The rising demand for non-conventional energy is expected to rise two times by year 2050. Probable predictions are that it may rise three times higher at the end of this century. Initiatives pertaining to improvements are currently in process in the energy conservation network. However the adequate effort put in for energy supply is not enough to meet the rising demand without causing catastrophic damage to the environment. Incompetent supply of clean energy is one of the most intimidating situation and challenge. Lack of efforts and unappreciated initiatives has been one of the major factors that didn’t force the issue of using solar energy, possessing enormous hidden potentiality to meet the grand energy demand and challenges. India is the fourth largest energy consumer in the world after the United States, China and Russia, and the country relies extensively on imports for its energy needs. Solar and other renewable energy sources account for only 2 per cent of India’s energy, with coal (24 %), combustible renewables and waste (24%), oil (24 %), natural gas (7 %), and nuclear (1 %) accounting for the rest. Abundant Energy Supply Potential: Sunlight provides by far the largest of all carbon-neutral energy supply. More energy from sunlight strikes the Earth in one hour than all the energy consumed on the planet in a year. This abundant natural source of energy is a compelling solution to our need for clean, abundant sources of energy in the future. It is readily available, secure from geopolitical tension, and poses no threat to our environment through pollution or to our climate through greenhouse gases. Over the period of time, out of all the major pertaining problems persisting in many areas of the country is the lack of basic amenities in our lives such as electricity and power supply. The prolong periods of power shortage in many regions of NCR, namely Fairdabad, Gurgaon, Noida and Bahadurgarh is a great cause of concern that has been creating obstacles in the smooth functionality of daily lives for many years now. The entire National Capital Region (NCR) comprises of a total area of 33,578 sq. km. including areas of Delhi (1483 sq. km), Haryana (13,413 sq. km), Uttar Pradesh (10,853 sq. km) and Rajasthan (7829 sq. km). There has been an increase in natural growth from 55.80% in 1981 to 59.21% in 1991 and 60.18% in 2001 and decrease in the net migrants from 44.20% in 1981 to 40.78% in 1991 and 39.82% in 2001. The hidden potentiality that solar energy holds can be the answer to unlocking numerous electricity problems faced. It’s one of the most invaluable...

Tidal Power

Tidal Power

Need of the Hour Tidal Energy is one of the abundant non-conventional sources of energy production power in India that have the capacity to answer major energy problems persisting in the country. With a potential to generate around 8000 MW tidal energy in the country, tidal power can be India’s much needed answer to the demanding depleting coal and fossil fuel resources. To generate electricity from tidal energy, various approaches are taken such as, dams are built near the estuaries to make use of inward and outward water currents and surges. Consequently, the oceanic water force is used to power electrical turbines to spawn power in the city. In our country, the Gulf of Kutch in state of Gujarat is an appropriate place for producing such tidal electricity from the energy generated by tall and powerful tides which breaks into small brooks. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy reported that in order to exploit tidal power, Government of Gujarat has signed a Memorandum of Understanding in January 2011 stating that they will design a 250 MW tidal power project in Gulf of Kutch that will have the capacity to provide much needed answer to the pressure of the ever depleting non-renewable source of energy. This project will be under Gujarat Power Corporation Ltd. (GPCL), Vadodara, M/s Atlantis Resource Corporation, United Kingdom and Perfect Mining Energy Solutions, Singapore. A Special Purpose Vehicle has already been incorporated in May, 2011 and GPCL has already started the project in the first phase by taking up a 50 MW tidal power project at Mandavi in district Kutch. Tidal Energy is a form of hydro power, which converts energy of the tides into veritable and useful power sources. The power comes from Earth’s oceanic tides, which is also known as tidal forces. It’s the only non-conventional power source which draws energy inherent in the orbital characteristics of the Earth-Moon system and to a lesser extent Earth-Sun system. The main efficiency of using tidal power is that approximately 80% of the power sources are involved in tapping the tidal energy and generating electricity. The best part about this type of energy is its predictability and studying the patterns, experts identify the in and out knowledge of the tides. Hence it can be one of the greatest source for having a positive impact on the climate change without causing too much of damage. With the coming of age, various ways of tapping into the tidal power source of energy has been applied and people across the world are enjoying the proven success and unlimited power supply such as: Tidal Stream Generator: This technology uses the...
